Why Container Gardens Are Perfect In Florida Landscapes

Yes, GreenEarth is a full-service landscape installation and maintenance company. But even though we spend our days dreaming up large-scale landscape designs for Florida panhandle landscapes of all sizes, we have a big soft spot in our green-thumb hearts for pint-sized container gardens!

Why should you include a container garden in your landscape design? There are plenty of benefits to them, but we’ve selected a few of our favorite reasons.

Instant Curb Appeal

Nothing livens up a front yard in a Florida panhandle landscape quicker than a pop of bright color from a well-placed container garden.

It can take months for a new landscape planting to grow in — and it’s well worth the wait — but if you’re a fan of instant gratification, you can add a mixed container to your Florida property for that immediate touch of life and color.

Ever-Changeable

Container gardens can change the look of your entire landscape the same way a different scarf or other accessory can transform an outfit. There are near endless mixes of beautiful, Florida-friendly plants you can choose to fill your containers, from basic monocultures to “thriller, filler, spiller” combinations that will turn heads regardless of where you place a container.

Like every part of your landscape, a container garden is can be changed by the season, but you can also add and subtract plants from a container to suit any whim! Perhaps you want to add a little extra something if you’re throwing party — it’s easy to dress up a container for a special occasion.

Portable

Given the Florida panhandle’s rainy season and the exceptionally long periods of drought our area has been known to experience — as well as the risk of hurricanes — there’s a huge benefit to a landscape with a portable element.

You probably won’t need to bring your container garden in out of the subzero temperatures, but the ability to move your plants inside and out of harm’s way if inclement weather threatens your investment is definitely beneficial.

Easy To Care For

Whether your Florida panhandle landscape has problematic soil, less-than-ideal sunlight exposure or other troubles, container gardens manage to circumvent them all. You can create the perfect growing conditions for your container specimens by selecting the perfect soil for what you’re planting and placing the container in an area that gets the best sunlight.

Add those benefits to the ability to create a convenient drip irrigation system for easy watering of your container garden, and you’ve got the simplest-ever maintenance solution for your easy-care miniature garden.

Cost Effective

One of the best parts about container gardens — one of the things our clients love most about them — is that they cost relatively little but provide that huge impact. The right container, even when filled with simple plants, can pack a huge aesthetic punch. You don’t have to sink half a month’s paycheck into your container plantings for it to lend big color, foliage texture and impact to your Florida panhandle landscape.

The maintenance aspect can also be quite cost effective, as all issues will be limited to that particular container. And if one plant dies, it’s simpler to replace it in a container than it would be within a bed.

Contain Yourself!

Whether you want to create a dramatic array of container gardens throughout your property or create a new landscape design that incorporates perennials, annuals, shrubs and more in both beds and containers, let GreenEarth guide you through the process of designing and installing it.
